All you should need is also listed here:
- Instructions for Authors (PDF)
If you are already familiar with LaTeX, you do not need to read the whole document. However, please pay attention to the following sections:
- Section 3 (style file and template to use; read the box carefully)
- Section 3.1, 3.2, 3.3; please pay attention to style conventions
(use of mixed case text, style for the list of authors, footnotes, etc.)
- Section 3.4 for Mathematical Symbols and Formatting
- Section 3.5 for Tables
- Section 3.6 for Figures
- Section 4.1, 4.2 for References

- Copyright Form (PDF, MSWord)
- Permission Form (PDF, MSWord)
If you want to include a figure which has already been published elsewhere, you *MUST* obtain the permission of the original publisher (copyright holder) to do so.
- LaTeX style file: do not modify!
- LaTeX template
- Checklist (PDF): this is basically
Section 6 of the Instructions for Authors document.
For Authors Who Work at JPL
All articles with any JPL employee as an author must undergo document review by JPL before they can be published in the proceedings. This is the responsibility of the individual authors, not the Editors. Please keep this in mind when responding to the proceedings deadline and contact the Editors as soon as possible if you anticipate a significant delay.
File Names
Please use the following naming convention for your manuscript:
LastName.tex | – the text of your manuscript |
LastNameFig1.eps | – the first figure in your paper |
LastNameFig2.eps | – the second figure in your paper |
Color Pages
The book will be printed in black and white, but the version posted
on the web will be in color. Authors are asked to submit their
manuscript with color images if desired; the printer will convert
color images to grayscale for printing. If an author is particularly
concerned about the grayscale conversion of images, they should
provide those in grayscale as well as color; the proceedings editors
will create a color PDF version for the web and a black and white PDF
for print. If authors wish color versions of figures to appear in the
print version as well, they will be asked to cover the cost ($150–$500
per color page, depending on the number of color figures in the
final volume).

Avoiding Common Mistakes
Below are some of the mistakes commonly made in submitted manuscripts:
- The Astronomical Society of the Pacific Conf. Ser. can only accept manuscripts in LaTeX format. Neither MS Word, PS, nor PDF manuscripts are acceptable.
- Figures should be submitted in EPS or PS format (EPS is preferred). Not, for example, in PDF, JPG, GIF, or TIFF format.
- The ASP Instructions for Authors say you can use the \plotfiddle command. However, we have had some problems with this. If you do not need to use the \plotone or \plottwo commands, we suggest using the \includegraphics command of the graphicx package. Instructions for using this are also included in the ASP Instructions for Authors.
- Color figures will be printed in black and white in the paper version of the proceedings. Unless otherwise specified, we will assume you are happy for your color figures to be converted to grayscale.
- Many authors neglect to fill in the Running Head titles in the \markboth{}{} field, near the top of the template. See the Instructions for Authors for rules on the formatting of authors' names. If you neglect to fill in a shortened version of your title, we will choose one for you.
